Waverley Patchworkers Quilt Show 2014

The Waverley Patchworkers Quilt Show is over and it was a very successful show. The quilt show committee and I had worked very hard in the 12 months leading up to the show. There is always so much to be done when you are planning a quilt show, but no matter what you do, members still have to finish their quilts and visitors must make the effort to come.

We had over 120 quilts and 69 challenge quilts and 33 art quilts on display, so there was plenty for everyone to see. As well as the Waverley demonstration table we had 7 shops, The Patchwork Tea House, Lilly Patches, Threadbear, Oz Quilts, Mrs Martin's Quilt Shop, Craftpaks and Sewn and Quilted.  Jim and Michelle from the Ringwood Sewing Centre who had so generously donated the viewer's choice prizes were there all weekend demonstrating the Handi Quilter Sweet 16, so there was something for everyone.

When I had a chance I took some quilt photos, so here is a snapshot of some of them.

My Baltimore by Angela van der Linden

Angela's quilt was designed by Noelene Houghton and quilted by Eileen Donnelly. She said that it took her 10 months to do the blocks and 10 years to complete the border. She must be relieved that it's finished at last.

Nile Journey by Jennifer Keogh

This is one of a series that Jennifer is doing to depict different styles over time.

Splash of Autumn by Sue McConchie

Sue's quilt was inspired by Sarah Dent and quilted by Lorene Horsnell. This photo doesn't do this quilt justice, it really glowed.

Garden Quilt (circa 1933) by Coral Moore

Coral's quilt was designed by Josephine Craig and quilted by Desley of Addicted to Quilts. The design was taken from a photo in Margaret Docherty's Birds and Roses book.

Mary Brown Revisited by Liz Willing

Liz was inspired by an antique quilt that had been exhibited in Houston. She designed and quilted it herself.

Hexagon Madness by Helen Rossiter

This photo doesn't do this quilt justice either, it was so vibrant. Naomi Hynes from the Elegant Stitch quilted it and Helen said that she didn't realise that hexagons would be so addictive.

Love Letters by Joyanne Paspa
 

Joyanne's quilt was designed by Allison Niclair and Robyn Geyer and was quilted by Desley Maisano of Addicted to Quilts. Joyanne made this quilt for her daughter's wedding an she personalised it by added their initials and engagement and wedding dates.

Effervescent by Linda Crouch

Linda made this is a Dena Crain workshop and I love the colour and the overlapping circles.

Thanksgiving Quilt by Val Grandin

This was a pattern by Crabapple Hill Studio and it was quilted by Naomi Hynes of The Elegant Stitch. This was one of my favourites, I suppose I liked the embroidery.

Fog in the Hills by Helen Feutrill

Helen designed and quilted this herself and she was inspired by a photo taken on the Black Spur. This was my favourite quilt, I love the atmospheric perspective she achieved.

Australian Beauty by Margaret Brook.

These colours reminded Margaret of Australia and the quilt was designed by Lessa Siegele.

These few quilts give you an idea of the variety and high standard of the quilts on display. There were so many more beautiful quilts.

I have taken photos of the wonderful red and white with a touch of black challenge quilts but they will have to wait for another post.
