Beth and Trevor Reid Exhibition

 My husband and I travelled up to Kyabram to the opening of the Beth and Trevor Reid exhibition.

Beth and Trevor are husband and wife artists from Canberra in Australia. I have seen one or two of their quilts before in exhibitions but absolutely loved seeing their collection. We were greeted by amazing colour and design. What a feast for the senses.

Here are some of my favourites, but really I loved everything.

There are actually 20 leaves in this collection but they only had three of them on display. I actually bought the one on the left. So it will come home with me when the exhibition closes.

As I said before my photos do not do them justice and you will be blown away by the full gallery of their colourful work. I wish that I had taken a photo of the room, so you could get an idea of the visual feast.

Luckily the exhibition is on until the 4th October 2024.

One Step Further 2022

 I was at the opening for One Step Further today, it's the Art Quilt Competition run by Victorian Quilters and I was absolutely thrilled to win a Highly Commended prize for my quilt Time Flies. Actually, I was gob smacked, because I thought my quilt wouldn't be arty enough to win a prize.

However, I am not complaining.

The Runner Up or 2nd prize went to Linden Lancaster for her quilt Bottlewashers 1. I really love Linden's work.

First Prize went to Judy Hooworth for her gorgeous quilt, Mangroves- Low Tide at Lake Eraring.

The exhibition is help at the Kyabram Town Hall Gallery, Victoria and it will be open everyday except Sundays until the 26th November.

It was a long 3 hour drive there and another 3 hours back, so that was a lot of driving in the rain today. It was a wonderful opening and great to catch up with friends. I'll put more photos up in another post but after all that driving, I am pretty exhausted.

Kyabram Exhibition 2022

 My exhibition is on again at the Kyabram Town Hall Gallery. This time I have my art quilts on display along with the quilts from the Waverley Art Quilters.

It's a lovely space with proper gallery lighting and the people running the gallery are wonderful to deal with.

I've run the Waverley Art Quilters for about ten years now and they are a wonderful group. I encouraged them to display a large wall hanging each as well as our challenge quilts.

We usually study an artist or a topic each month and then make a small work inspired by our studies. Some of that work is on display. Here is the display about Windows.

The exhibition is on at the Kyabram Town Hall Gallery in Kyabram, Victoria, Australia.

It is open 10am - 4pm Monday to Saturday until 29th July.

I'll be there on Thursday 23rd June, Thursday 30th June and Wednesday 6th July.

It is so wonderful to find a gallery that supports textile artists and I hope they get a good attendance. There is a lovely patchwork shop next door and cafes for morning tea or lunch.

Sue de Vanny Exhibition

 Hooray, I finally got to a quilt exhibition last week. The first one in 12 months. The last exhibition was actually my own show that was on this time last year and then the world seemingly stopped and there has been nothing on since.

Sue de Vanny's exhibition is currently on display at the Kyabram Town Hall Gallery in Victoria, Australia. It is a large gallery space with professional lighting and it specialises in textiles. We are so lucky to have a gallery like this.

Sue de Vanny is an art quilter and it was so wonderful to see all her quilts together and have a close look at her techniques.

Sue has been to South Africa a few times and uses her photographs as inspiration for many of her quilts.

I remember Sue's tram quilt at the Australasian Quilt Convention back in 2014, it was very popular and won Viewer's Choice, I think.

Sue has started with a different pieced technique lately and this quilt has recently won 3rd prize at Quilt Con, the Modern Quilt Guild Competition. It was able to be at the exhibition because the show was a virtual exhibition this year.

I drove the two and a half hour drive to Kyabram with my friend Marion, who was also my room-mate when I went to Uluru in 2018. It was good to spend time with Marion again. I asked Marion to take a photo of me in front of the quilt that I love the best out of all of Sue's quilts.

I felt so inspired by the exhibition that I wanted to come home and start sewing, of course I didn't, life got in the way but I do have some ideas percolating in my mind.

My Solo Exhibition

I had a wonderful three weeks at my solo exhibition in Kyabram. It was supposed to go for a month but the Corona Virus suddenly took over our lives and the gallery had to close. I was lucky to have those three weeks and the exhibition was very successful with many visitors coming from Melbourne and neighbouring towns to visit.

There was a lovely article in the local newsletter about me.

I met so many lovely ladies and some also brought their husbands along.

I finally got to meet up with Faye, one of my on-line friends from the Southern Cross Crazies.

Last Tuesday, I taught and crazy quilting class at Catharina's Vintage Stitches. The shop is two doors down form the Kyabram Town Hall Gallery. It is a big shop with a huge variety of stock; they were also giving 10% discount to anyone who visited the show.

I remembered to take a photo at the end of the class.

I have promised to do a two-day class in October; it will be about making a Coral Reef quilt.

So, my show is over and I drove up on Monday and packed up the exhibition. It took a half an hour to pack up and three hours to set up!

It was a wonderful experience and the Kyabram Gallery were wonderful people to work with. I stayed at the Kyabram Motor Inn when I was staying up there and it was very nice. The weather up in Kyabram is warmer than Melbourne and I loved not feeling cold.

Victorian Quilters are going to have their One Step Further exhibition up there in October and November and so I will be making the trip up there again. Hopefully all this virus worry will be over by then.

Kyabram Exhibition Begins

It's been an exciting week this week because my solo exhibition opened on Monday. It is in the lovely town of Kyabram, a two-and-a-half hour drive from Melbourne. My husband and I drove up last Saturday and put up the exhibition with two lovely Kyabram volunteers, Lesley and Judy. It took about 3 hours to set up, luckily, I was organised and had all of the quilt rods cut to size and named.

The Kyabram townsfolk have done a wonderful job of renovating the Town Hall and have turned it into a gorgeous art gallery with three large exhibition spaces.

I have all my Crazy quilts, applique and pictorial quilts on display. I have tried to display them in groups and a pleasing colour arrangement. My Coral Reef series has a section on its own, so that has worked just the way I wanted it too. The gallery space is very large and so I ended up using all my quilts even the 4 quilts that I had in reserve, just in case I needed them.

Luckily my Magical Coral Reef quilt returned home from the USA two days before! With a lovely Viewer's Choice ribbon too.

I had a lovely first day because four of my friends came up to visit. Thank you to Deb, Sugy, Sue and Pat for making the day so special. Sugy is wearing sunglasses because she left her usual glasses back in Melbourne. It was a lovely warm, sunny day in Kyabram.

The ladies at the gallery provided us lunch as a surprise.

There is a piano at the gallery and I put 3 of my coral reef quilts above it.

I stayed for the first two days at a Kyabram motel and before the gallery opened at 10am, I went to a local cafe for coffee. I was reading a local newspaper and found my exhibition mentioned in the What's On section. It's a pity that they left the e off my surname!

I was speaking to someone at the gallery who was getting some information from me for an article and I noticed that she had also left the e off my surname, she was surprised that it bothered me! I said that it didn't seem like me without the e.

The exhibition is open all of March from 10am to 4pm every day except Sundays.

I will be there next Monday 11th, which is a long weekend, in Melbourne. I'll also be there all of the following week, the 16th to the 20th March. I'll also be there on Friday 27th and Monday 30th March.

There is a wonderful patchwork shop two doors down from the gallery called Catharina's Vintage Stitches. They have asked me to teach a one-day Crazy Patchwork class on Tuesday 17th March.
